Biology and chemistry. Biology so you know what a mouth is, and chemistry so that you know about things like fillings, drugs and so on.
There’s a bunch of medicine too, but basic science would come first. If you’re thinking about which subjects to go for, you should study, and do well in, chemistry and biology.
I would check with the university you’re planning to go to for studying dentistry and check with them on what courses they would like you to study.
One of my brothers is a dentist. His high school subjects included two mathematics courses, chemistry, physics, English and Economics but this is only a guide. The best bet is to check with the university to find out what they think is best.
Agree with Matt: Biology and chemistry. some universities do not require these as pre-requisities, which is NOT to say they are not needed. The relaxation of requirements is to recognise that some students change their minds between making subject choices and university selection, so they are not excluded. However, they will need some extra work in 1st year univ to make up the lack.
Yes, I agree. You’ll probably need to study biology and chemistry at high school, but best to check out the prerequisites for the course at the uni you’re hoping to go to. Good English and Maths skills are also a good idea for any science courses at uni.
Also, check to see whether the dentistry course is an undergraduate or a graduate course. You can start undergraduate courses straight after you finish high school. But graduate courses mean that you need to have already done a degree at uni before you start the dentistry course
You’d probably need to know a bit of chemistry, biology AND physics, as you would have to do at least a unit of each once you get to Uni. As the other scientists have said, you need to check each Uni’s requirements to see what you need.
