Question: What do you enjoy other than science?

  1. I enjoy cooking, although I’m not very good at it yet. I mainly make stir fries and pastas because they’re easy but they taste good. My housemates are vegetarian. I like to eat meat but I’m learning to eat less and cook more vegetarian meals.

I also like to go for runs, go swimming and bike riding. I like to play with my dog Jess. I go out with friends to the pub or out to dinner. This usually leads to buying gelato – peanut butter, nutella, tim tam and cookies and cream are my favourite flavours. I also eat way too much chocolate!

  2. I like holidays, sleep-ins, reading, watching TV and movies, hanging out with friends, vintage shopping and having afternoon tea parties. I enjoy cooking, which I have been doing for myself since I moved out of home a couple of years ago. I like watching TV shows about cooking (Masterchef, MKR) but I would hate to go on them because seeing myself on TV would be terrifying. Also, a bit weirdly, I actually enjoy going to the supermarket and doing the shopping.

Another thing I enjoy is writing and I hope that a bit later in my life my career will be writing mostly about science (and a novel! I want to do that).

  3. Family (wife and boy – walks, doing stuff, lego)
    movies (I totally love movies)
talking about stuff with friends while eating and drinking (this is the highest and most noble thing we can do as human beings)
Read (but we all do that)
Run and swim (not so much at the moment and totally need to get back into that)
I used to play a lot of computer games when I was younger (could pwn anyone at any FPS – still remember the thrill of shooting my best friend with a rocket for the first time 15 years ago)
Learning piano (wife is expert and says encouraging things)
Avoiding DIY (I like thinking up reasons why I don’t mend the house)
Walking round IKEA (we have way too many coloured plates)
How the web is changing the world (outside of science, how people are doing things online in new ways to solve problems. Really amazing)
