No, we don’t harm the reptiles when we collect them. We either catch them by hand or we “fish” for them. We use a fishing rod (no hook!) and tie a worm on the end. We use this as a lure to make the lizard walk into a little net, so the lizards don’t get hurt. We then put them into a dark cloth bag so they don’t stress out and being them back to uni in the car. Our lizards are in the lap of luxury when they stay at uni – they get all the crickets they want, a nice big rock to sit on or hide under, a heat lamp to warm up, and a big water bowl to swim in (water skinks like to swim)
