Question: if i stand next to gamma radiation can i turn into the hulk?

Keywords: , , ,

  1. Very likely not. Gamma radiation is usually bad for you in high doses – it can destroy cells by destroying molecules in the cells like DNA. We can use this in treating cancer, for example, and we are at the moment finding out ways of getting gamma rays to cancer cells and not to normal cells.

The Hulk, on the other hand, is a *made up creature*.

  2. That’s what they call an experiment. Have a theory, test it out…..

In this case it’s also called extreme stupidity. Gamma radiation penetrates into the body and rips through the DNA. There is a very, very, very, very, very……very, very, very, very small chance that if you were exposed to a small amount of radiation and it only did a little bit of damage to your cells that you would end up with a mutation that made you awesome. There is a HUGE chance that you would end up with cancer or dead.

Better odds if you try the lottery and buy yourself a great hulk costume.

  1. Just thought I’d mention another use for gamma radiation: sterilising food. A lot of pre-packed food (in tins, for example) has been hit with gamma radiation to kill off all the bacteria in it so that it keeps for a long time. Don’t worry: nothing dangerous about the food at all!
