Hi Alice, a Koala is actually a marsupial, a type of animal which has live young and keeps it in a pouch.
It was called a bear by early explorers of Australia because it does look a lot like a little bear! It’s not usually called a Koala Bear now (at least not in Australia) because it’s too confusing.
