Question: what did you do today?

Keywords: , ,

  1. My boy woke me at 5 a.m. I pretended to be asleep. Didn’t work.
Breakfast then bus into work. Got to my desk just before 8 with a cup of coffee.
I spent an hour answering a couple of questions for I’m a Scientist.
I spent 9-11 writing a scientific paper that one of my students was also working on.
11-12 I spent meeting two other students in the group to talk about their latest results.
1-3 I read other things to do with my work, and I sent some extremely boring emails. I then talked for 20 minutes to some people about a teaching-related thing to do with exams, which are happening right now.
3-4 I spent in a chat session with a school for I’m a Scientist. Actually the school didn’t show, so I talked to the other scientists šŸ™‚
4-5 I talked to a couple of students in the lab about their results.
5 – went to the pub with my wife and boy
    7 – dinner, boy’s bathtime
8:30 till now (10) answering some questions on I’m a Scientist and sending other emails.

What did you do today? šŸ™‚

  2. I ran into work at 8am to start an experiment which takes 6 hours. I ran home again (I’m not that good, it’s just really not that far) for breakfast and a shower (and a few I’m a Scientist questions), before heading back to work around 10.

I did the next part of the experiment then left it for a few more hours while I answered more I’m a Scientist questions and had lunch. I had a meeting with my boss about how my project is going and what I need to do next.

I finished off my experiment and went for a chat session that never happened. Unfortunate, but it was coffee time anyway so it didn’t matter.

I spent the rest of the afternoon writing up my Lab book (all the details of what I’ve been doing, then went home at 6, which is quite a long day for me. I have then spent literally all evening answering a bucketload of questions from you guys, with one short pause for dinner time. It’s fun and really interesting to see the questions you ask and to find out the answers if I don’t already know. But it is very late now (today is almost over) as I have to be up early again tomorrow morning for another experiment like today’s and a whole heap of other things I need to do.

  3. Up at 7:20 and dug my son out of bed — not easy.
He was off to school and then I spent some time answering questions for Iā€™m a Scientist.
I drove to work after the morning peak hour.
Got my photo taken to promote the REACT TO CHEMISTRY book, which is a resource book of ideas for National Science Week.
Sadly, there has been a case of alleged misconduct by a student, so I had to send a bit of time on that.
Then the rest of the day preparing for a laboratory workshop, which is to be held Wednesday and Thursday, and doing Iā€™m a Scientist things.
    Left work at about 5:30.
Attended Scouts for about 3 hours, then home at about 10 pm.
Finished preparing for the laboratory workshop and now answering one or two questions (12:55am) before going to sleep.

  4. Today I went to the CSIRO in North Ryde. I’m going to do some work there teaching science to school kids. I saw three different classes – one which taught science using toys, one which explained how insects work, and one which talked about chemistry.

I liked the one about insects the best because I like animals. There were some live insects there, but most of the kids were pretty scared to touch them. The best insects there were some giant stick insects and a giant burrowing cockroach as big as the palm of my hand!
