I don’t believe in aliens like the ones on TV, but I do think it’s likely that there are other living things somewhere in the Universe (or maybe outside it?). I don’t know if we would be able to recognise them though, they could be really huge or really small, or just something that we can’t see. I mean, for all we know, we could be living inside an alien’s belly!
Yes, in the sense that I think there is life out there on other planets. No, in the sense that I don’t think they are here on earth living among us, or that they magically appear to people in deserts when there’s nobody else around.
Our best bet of “seeing” an alien is to pick up things like radiowaves from distant planets. That’s what SETI is for. Nothing yet. Still looking… Would be amusing if the first thing we detected was an alien version of Deal or No Deal.
Yes, I believe that there could be life on other planets and other solar systems. No the chances of meeting another intelligent life form would be so small that I believe that to be very unlikely.
Even here on earth, there are organisms that live in amazingly harsh environments. At Iron Mountain in California, the runoff from the mine tailings is so acidic that the pH is MINUS 3.6, yet are are organisms living there. At the bottom of the ocean, there are volcanic vents that heat the water to hundreds of degrees — it is still water because of the huge pressure — and there are organisms that live there. So yes, the universe is so vast, there there would be some life somewhere.
The universe is so vast that it would be very very very very unlikely to have two intelligent life forms (ie TV and movie aliens) in essentially the same place at the same time, etc.
