I never played hockey when I was young, but I used to play a lot of soccer. I think the rules of soccer and hockey are quite similar. I tried playing hockey a few times at school, but I never understood why they made the sticks so short. Surely if they were longer, you wouldn’t have to bend over so far to hit the ball!
I am not a great fan of hockey, though I do enjoy watching my son play. Many years ago, I did play innebandy, which is a form of indoor hockey, and that was fun. This was in Sweden, where I was a visiting scientist for 3 months. Not all scientists travel, but in my area of science (scientific research), I have got to travel a bit.
I’ve got nothing against hockey. I played it in school, but I played it with a bunch of people who swung the stick up high a lot and I was more concerned with losing my face than that game. Apparently real players know about this and it’s not so bad. I like watching ice hockey because I can never see the puck, and it looks like a bunch of people in clothes that are too big for them chasing something that doesn’t exist, but which they all agree on.
I loved hockey when I was in high school. I was pretty good at it too and one teacher suggested that I join a local team and try out for state selection. It didn’t happen though because I managed to badly sprain my ankle in a match during class. I’ll still watch a a game from time to time but that’s about it these days.
Hi xancranmonkey, sure I like hockey. I think a sport is more fun when there’s a good chance of getting knee-capped. I was never amazing at it myself, but it’s a lot of fun.
