Question: what is the point of the world?

  1. Nobody knows. I don’t think there is a point. We just are here, and that’s the way it is. That means we can choose how to live, rather than anyone telling us. Science can help you understand the world and think about it in creative ways, and that can allow you to decide how to live, and how best to use your time. But there are also other things to think about – how should we live? What does it mean to be a good person?

You’ve asked one of the most important questions it’s possible to ask. Simple questions have simple answers. Tough questions have complex answers. But questions like yours may not have an answer at all.

  2. No one knows. I also don’t think that there is a point to the world which is good because we’re not trapped in a giant maze created for us to find our way through it. So what to do in the mean time while pondering on the point of living and the world? Live. Have fun. Eat chocolate. Wait, that’s what I would do but if it sounds like a good idea to you, no harm doing that too. The main thing though whatever it is that you do decide to do is that you be yourself. If there is any point to the world, I think it is being true to yourself as horribly corny as it sounds.

  3. I don’t know about the point of the world but there are some pointy parts in the world. Like the highest point above sea level (Mount Everest) and the furthest point from the Earth’s centre (Chimborazo. The Earth is not perfectly round so Mt Everest is not the furthest from the centre).

Perhaps travelling to such pointy places would give great insight into meaning and purpose? 🙂

  4. This is in the realm of religion and philosophy, not in the area of science. So pass.
